Although I have only been in Queenstown for just under 4 hours, I have already managed to spend an alarming amount of money. I feel ok about this, though, because it means I have a shiny new camera and 2 gigs of memory with which to record my upcoming adventures. I also have an 8 liter dry sack and some warm and fuzzy New Zealand possum fur gloves. If only I had that dang compass, I would be all set. I will just have to rely on the guide to steer me in the correct direction.Queenstown is an amazing place. It is a little town--but huge compared to Kaitaia--around the banks of Lake Wakatipu and in a basin surrounded by dramatic slopes. Once I read the instruction manual for my Cannon Ixus 80 IS, I will download some lovely pictures. It is also overrun with tourists, partly because it always is and partly because it is Easter weekend and a big rugby match today. I miss the feel of 'home' I have come to associate with Cooper's Beach. It's remarkable how departing is so unpleasant, but arriving renews the excitement. I was disgruntled with having to pack up and drive away and not see those people whom I now consider friends for who knows how long, but landing in Queenstown reignited the eager anticipation of my upcoming adventure.
For now, I will sign off, as I am in an internet cafe and must go purchase some eggs and salsa for dinner before the shops close early on this Easter Eve.
